Côte d’Ivoire Cashew Sector Carbon Program

A programme to build a low-carbon, climate-resilient and economically productive cashew sector in Côte d’Ivoire.

CBC is developing the programme in collaboration with the World Bank. It combines carbon sequestration, sustainable agricultural intensification, waste-to-energy technology and circular-economy opportunities across the cashew value chain.

Objectives

  • Reduce greenhouse gas emissions and explore carbon sequestration in cashew-growing areas.
  • Convert discarded shells into energy through pyrolysis and carbonisation.
  • Produce biochar as a soil amendment for cashew farms.
  • Add value from cashew apples and shells to create products, jobs and income.
  • Develop work plans, monitoring systems and carbon-market pathways aligned with the SDGs.
